Support to be the therapist you want to be.
Our work can be hard. Although there's nothing quite like the feeling of helping clients to heal and grow, there's no denying it takes a toll. Ministering to clients who have had their lives ravaged by trauma or who struggle with deranging anxiety can leave us feeling completely spent. Meanwhile, the stress and isolation of private practice and the bureaucracy of community care work can result in feeling heavy and lacking in lifeforce.

Support, not judgment, is what we need most of all in this work.

All too often supervision feels like a visit to the principal's office. I know how excruciating it can be to have a stranger pontificate and scrutinise your work, so you won't get that from me. I really care about forging a supervisory relationship that is mutually respectful and open.

From warmth and trust, challenge is tolerable and growth is possible.

Counselling Psychologist, Psychotherapist &
Board-Approved Supervisor
We challenge our clients, so we know we need to be challenged too. We'd like to think of ourselves as thick-skinned, but it's exposing to really 'show-up' in supervision and remain non-defensive and open-minded. I know how potentially shame-sensitive the supervision space can be. At the same time, it doesn't help to have a fluffy supervisor who patronises you with pats on the head for trying. I'll challenge you if it's appropriate, and always from a place of sincerity, respect, and faith in your capacity to grow as a therapist.
